Commuters who struggle to exit crowded carriages or buses before the doors close can now breathe a little easier! Changes to the TAC scheme by the Victorian Government now mean that more help is available for injured public transport users. Previously, public transport users were only entitled to help from the TAC if the injury was directly caused by the driving of the Train, Tram or Bus .

Now, commuters injured by opening and closing doors will also receive help from the TAC. Disputes about whether trains were moving or not when people were injured will become a thing of the past. The train, tram or bus can be stationary or moving now. It just has to be an incident involving the opening or closing door.

The TAC now covers injuries:

• Directly caused by the driving of a tram train or bus;
• Caused from an open or opening motor vehicle door;
• Caused by a runaway vehicle;
• Occurring whilst riding a pushbike into a stationary car on the way to or from work;
• Involving opening or closing a train, tram or bus door.
