Allegations of sexual abuse have been made against a number of Victorian schools, most notably the prestigious Geelong Grammar. During September and October 2015, the school was the subject of a public hearing by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in relation to allegations of child sexual abuse of a number of former students. The intention of the hearing was to:
- inquire into the response of the School Council, Principals and other members of staff with regard to reports of inappropriate conduct and child sexual abuse towards students by teaching and non-teaching staff; and
- examine past and current practices, policies and procedures in place in relation to raising and responding to concerns and complaints about child sexual abuse.
The written submissions from former students of the school were published today. Adviceline Injury Lawyers has a long history of assisting injured claimants, including victims of sexual abuse. Anyone seeking advice regarding their legal options can contact us on (03) 9321 9988.
