Parkinson's cluster discovered in regional Victoria

World Parkinson’s Day, commemorated annually on 11 April, raises awareness of the disease and seeks to raise funds for research.  In Australia, 70,000 people are currently living with Parkinson’s disease, and 32 new sufferers are diagnosed daily.

A recent study by Monash University has linked abnormal rates of Parkinson’s disease to the farming regions of Victoria.  Rates in the areas such as Buloke Shire are 78% higher than the state average.

The research – to be published later in 2016 and funded by Parkinson’s Victoria – builds on the findings of similar international studies and makes a strong connection between the use of certain pesticides and an increase in the rates of the disease.

Whilst the study and it’s inconclusive links have yet to be published, if you think your medical condition can be related to the use of pesticides please contact our office on (03) 9321 9988.
