An injury 12 years in the making

An injury 12 years in the making

Arriving in Australia in the late 1980s as a refugee, our client had a steady employment, assembling metal parts in factories when he was injured.

The work he was assigned to do was heavy and repetitive, and there was no rotation of the duties amongst other employees. This caused periods of pain in his neck and shoulders. Our client sought medical assistance from his doctor, took the occasional day off work, however continued to work through his pain.

Despite starting with his injury employer in 2005, it wasn’t until 2017 where an incident resulted in our client sustaining an injury whilst completing a task on his own when it required two people.

After some time off work, our client did his best to remain in employment doing light duties. Eventually, he resumed normal duties for a short period before recognising he was physically unable to so he stopped working.

In addition to his neck and shoulder pain, our client suffered a psychiatric reaction to his loss of identity and independence.

We assisted him by lodging a Serious Injury Application on his behalf for pain and suffering, and economic loss. Our client’s application was granted, and an early resolution was reached.
